ON BEING A BEGINNER AND MAKING MISTAKES
Let me start by saying: I still consider myself a beginner. Lets face it, I've only made 2 totally finished quilts.
Where I started
I started from nothing. I was always drawn to quilts, probably like you. One day I just decided, I would learn. About.com and Amy Smart's www.diaryofaquilter.com were my go-to teachers. If you'd like to start quilting, those are the best sources of information I've seen yet.You will make mistakes
Quilt#1- went off without a hitch. It took forever. I ended up sewing a few pieces in a different order than I had planned, oh well. I had chosen a very simple pattern with all straight lines. Made the whole thing by hand since I didn't have a sewing machine...yet.Quilt#2- seemed pretty simple. All straight lines again. Didn't think I needed a pattern. This quilt was all triangles sew together. Do you know what happened? All the tips of the tops of the triangles got cut off. Checked online for tips to avoid this next time. You live you learn. I still think it turned out great. Check it:
